Workshop Introduction
Workshop Introduction
A long-established Nambu ironware store that preserves the craftsmanship of tea ceremony utensils
Among the production areas of Nambu ironware, the Mizusawa district, where Otomi is located, has been making tea utensils since ancient times. Otomi was founded in 1848 and is a manufacturer that has grown alongside the history of Nambu ironware.
While many manufacturers divide production into separate tasks, Otomi is one of the few manufacturers that handles everything from design and casting to finishing and sales. This is why, in order to take advantage of the properties of iron and bring out its beauty, the techniques that have been passed down by craftsmen are embodied in each iron kettle.
Tea is an integral part of everyday life in Japan. For this reason, craftsmen have honed their skills, pursuing not only beauty of appearance but also functionality. This is why Nambu ironware is recognized around the world and is sought after by so many people.
