Modern Japanese Coaster (Kagome)

The basket weave pattern is a stylized design of the weave of a bamboo basket, and because it resembles a hexagram, it has also been used as a talisman against evil spirits.
This was expressed using Yabushita's iron processing techniques and then polished by skilled craftsmen to create a coaster.

Basket weave is used as a talisman to ward off evil spirits, and in ancient Japan, bamboo baskets were hung at entrances as talismans.
Even today, stone lanterns around Ise Shrine are engraved with basket weave patterns as a design to ward off evil spirits.
