Woven from thin bamboo strips
Bamboo "iron bowl"
An "iron bowl" is a round iron bowl that monks carried to catch food when begging for alms.

It is said that Shono Shounsai, a Living National Treasure for his bamboo craftsmanship, created bamboo products based on this shape.

Beppu, known for its bamboo crafts, has traditionally made iron bamboo bowls. The bottom of the iron bowl is decorated with a traditional bamboo weaving technique called "Hana Mutsume Ami."

Flower hexagon stitch is made by sewing two pieces of hexagon stitch together.

By using this Hana-Rokume-Ai weave on the bottom, the strength of the basket is increased, making it easy to use in daily life.

The gorgeous world created by the two-colored bamboo can also be used as interior decoration.

The color of the contents can be seen through the gaps in the weave, and just by casually placing it around, it will blend in and add color to your life.

We hope you enjoy watching it change to an amber color along with the various memories of your life.

Carefully crafted down to each and every bamboo stick
Delicate craftsmanship
Yamashita Kogei is a manufacturer that makes various bamboo crafts in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, a bamboo craft production area. With a thorough knowledge of the characteristics of bamboo and the techniques of bamboo craftsmen, they are challenging themselves to create new products.

The Hana Rotsume Iron Bowl is woven by a skilled artisan who loves Hana Rotsume weaving and has dedicated his life to creating bamboo crafts using this technique.

The craftsmen are so particular about the bamboo they use that they personally select the bamboo and make each one into a strip. The iron bowl is made by carefully weaving strips of bamboo from the outside, making it strong and flexible, and gently enveloping the contents inside.

This is a masterpiece that conveys Yamashita Kogei's belief that even traditional items have "that something" that can enrich modern life.
