Satsuma Kiriko Black Cut Glass Cold Tea Bowl "Kohana" (Limited Edition 2024)
Vivid colors, one-of-a-kind brilliance The luxury of using legendary Satsuma Kiriko Double-layered glass creates a reproduced gradation At the end of the Edo period, the feudal lord of the Satsuma domain recommended the production of Satsuma Kiriko to revive the industry. After that, it was tossed about by the rough waves of history such as the Anglo-Satsuma War, and production ceased after just over 20 years. Modern Satsuma Kiriko was born from the reproduction of this legendary Satsuma Kiriko. After blowing colored glass, transparent glass is pushed inside it, and the double layer of glass is created using advanced techniques to make it adhere tightly, and delicate patterns are engraved on the surface. The texture is heavy and solid, and even feels warm. The soft gradation of the cut parts, which is created because the colored glass is thick, is also a beauty unique to Satsuma Kiriko. Cutting black colored glass is a particularly difficult technique, described as "like cutting in the dark using only the sense of your hand." For this reason, the skilled technique and sense of the craftsman are essential. Please enjoy the craftsmanship of the master.
